You play the part of one of the crew of the "Event Horizon" as it makes the dimensional jump. Fortunately (or perhaps not) your suspension tank remains intact when the jump is performed. One of the crew never made it into a tank in time, and you emerge from your tank to witness the remains of that crew member smeared across the walls. The immense velocity attained from the jump splattered them into a pulpy mess.
As you wander around the ship you begin to notice the regular routine of a ship is no longer maintained. Many of the crew have changed, in subtle ways. Like why is Chief Petty Officer Brands looking at you like she wants to eat your liver with some nice Chianti? Immediately you are hit with a sense of paranoia and dread.
Your first stop is the Infirmary to see if there are any casualties - you being a MedTech an' all - well any living casualties. On your way there you are approached by the Chief Mechanic who says "I need somewhere to rest, my eyes are killing me". He turns to you and plucks one eye out and shows it to you. You blink, and then look again. "Are you okay?" he asks (both eyes where they should be), and he walks off.
When you arrive at the Infirmary you witness another horrific scene, but this time it is real. Casualties everywhere, not enough beds or staff to cope, and strange traumas unlike anything you have ever seen. One crew member has had their head fused with a part of the ship, another crew member has been gnawing on her own hand, which is now a bloody stump. While they try to sedate her, she keeps trying to eat more, moaning, "sooo hungry, I have to eat...".
As you look for your first triage patient your eyes fall upon your own wife. She is horribly burned, possible from a burst plasma conduit, and she is staring at you. Her lips are moving as if she is saying something but no sound comes out.
You get closer and try to hold her hand which is fairly well melted. You lean closer and listen to her. She says, "please burn me, I need to burn to purge the flesh". A nurse comes over and whispers to you, "she did this to herself, we had to cover her with blankets to douse the flames". You stand back in shock, and your mind reels. Then everything turns black.
